When we are able to successfully settle a debt we will contact you and ask that you release the funds necessary to pay it. If it turns out that there is not enough money in your account to settle all of your debts, which is typically the case, we will offer you a payment program. If you accept this offer you will then have consolidated your debts because you will now have just one payment to make a month – to National Debt Relief. Most of our customers are able to complete their payment programs in 24 to 48 months – depending on the size of their debts.

If you are struggling to make the minimum payments on more than one account, debt consolidation may be able to give you some breathing room. If your various accounts all have harsh interest rates associated with them, it's very possible that a new debt consolidation loan can offer a more attractive rate that's less aggressive. Consult with an expert before committing to debt consolidation!
Opening several credit accounts in a short amount of time can appear risky to lenders and negatively impact your credit score. Before you take out a loan or open a new credit card account, consider the effects it could have on your credit scores. Know too, that when you're buying a car or looking around for the best mortgage rates, your inquiries may be grouped and counted as only one inquiry for the purpose of adding information to your credit report. In many commonly-used scoring models, recent inquiries have greater effect than older inquiries, and they only appear on your credit report or a maximum of 25 months.

Home equity loan or line of credit – With a home equity loan or home equity line of credit, homeowners who’ve built up an ownership stake in their home may be able to take out a loan using their home as collateral. These loans typically offer lower interest rates than credit cards or personal loans. But beware: If you don’t pay it back, you could lose your home.

When you consolidate your debt with SunTrust you can save money on interest, enjoy a flexible loan amount, choose your own pay-back terms, and more. The benefits you receive depend on what you want to accomplish and how you want to accomplish it, but no matter which debt consolidation solution you choose, you can be more in control of your finances.

This tool is for illustrative and educational purposes only and assumes excellent borrower credit history. Your Annual Percentage Rate (APR) will be based on the specific characteristics of your credit application including, but not limited to, evaluation of credit history and amount of credit requested. Your actual APR will be determined when a credit decision is made and may be higher than the rates shown. At least 5% of approved applicants qualified for this rate based on data from 07/01/2018 to 09/30/2018. The interest rate is fixed for the life of the loan. Rates subject to change without notice.
The first advantages have to do with the structure of a personal loan. The fixed payments provide predictability on when you will be done paying your loan, and the interest rates are usually much lower for personal debt consolidation loans than they are for credit cards. In fact, because loans are issued through the banks, there are limits on how high of an interest rate they can have. For example, federal credit unions are typically limited to 18% per annum.
Lastly, check if there are any additional benefits – a common one you might find is a hardship option. If you think you might run into problems in the future, it’s nice to know that you work with a lender that has hardship options that can help alleviate the stress. This is something you should always consider if you’ve had problems meeting your financial obligations in the past.
A second way to get debt under control and ultimately paid off is with a debt consolidation loan. If you own your home and have some equity in it you might be able to get either a home equity loan or a homeowner equity line of credit (HELOC). You would then use the proceeds from the loan to pay off all of your other debts. You would then have only one payment to make a month, which should be considerably less than the sum of the payments you are now making. The reason for this is that either one of these loans would have a much lower interest rate than the average of the interest rates you’re now paying. If you’re paying an average of 15% or even higher on your credit card debts and were able to consolidate them into a variable rate home equity loan, your interest rate could drop to 4% or less. And the interest on an interest-only HELOC might be even lower.
loan forgiveness or loan discharge — in some circumstances, you don’t have to repay some or all of your loans. You might qualify if, for instance, you work for a government or not-for-profit organization, if you become disabled, or if your school closed or committed fraud. Also, under certain income-driven repayment plans, any balance that remains after 20 or 25 years of payments is forgiven. In some cases, you may owe income taxes on the forgiven or discharged amount.
5 A 0.25% interest rate reduction off the standard rate of a consumer line of credit is available if the payment is automatically deducted from a SunTrust checking, savings or money market account using SurePay. For the SunTrust Equity Line, this interest rate reduction does not apply to promotional rate advances, Fixed Rate/Fixed Term advances, or during the Repayment Period. All line discount offers are subject to change. Offer for new and refinanced eligible consumer loans and lines of credit, as well as for credit line increases. A relationship discount is not available on existing consumer loans or lines of credit. Relationship pricing discounts may not be applicable for all products. Consult your banker for details.
Savings vary per customer. 3,690 randomly selected borrowers in a survey conducted from 1/1/18 – 11/30/18 reported an average interest rate on outstanding debt or credit cards of 20.5%. Assuming 3% annual fees, based on CFPB, “The Consumer Credit Card Market,” 2015, that yields an APR of 22.74%. From 1/1/18 – 11/30/18, borrowers who received a loan via LendingClub to consolidate existing debt or pay off their credit card balance received an average APR of 19.2% and average loan size of $14,700. With a paydown period of 36 months on an initial balance of $14,700, the monthly payment for credit cards is $550.06 vs. $513.91 for a personal loan, for total savings of $1,290.88 in interest and fees.
While there are no specific credit requirements to get a loan through Marcus, the company does try to target those that have “prime” credit, which is usually those with a FICO score higher than 660. Even with a less than excellent credit score, you may be able to qualify for a personal loan from Marcus, though, those that have recent, negative marks on their credit report, such as missed payments, will likely be rejected.
With federal student loan consolidation, federal student loans are combined into one account. Private loans are not consolidated into the account. Federal student loan consolidation takes a weighted average of your current interest rates and combines them into a single payment with adjustable payment terms between 10 to 30 years. The process is free and may allow you to retain benefits including income-based repayment and public service loan forgiveness.
“One of the more concerning trends is the increased use of enforcement, particularly through the high court, by the water companies,” says Andy Shaw, one of the charity’s debt advice coordinators. “Historically we might have seen cases where clients had got behind with their water bills progressing as far as a county court judgment but no further. The water companies seem to have become more aggressive in their debt collection methods.”

In some cases, it might be difficult to determine what to include as far as supporting documentation goes — that’s another way a credit repair company can help you. For example, if you’re a victim of identity theft and a fraudulent account is appearing on your credit report, it can be tough to prove it isn’t yours since you naturally don’t have any documents relating to the account.

Lenders and others usually use your credit report along with additional finance factors to make decisions about the risks they face in lending to you. Having negative information on your credit report or a low credit score could suggest to lenders that you are less likely to pay back your debt as agreed. As a result, they may deny you a loan or charge you higher rates and fees.
The key to debt consolidation is to avoid taking on new debt. If you borrow money, pay off your credit cards and then charge them back up again, you’re in worse shape than ever. If there is any chance that you might do this, or if you find yourself doing it after you obtain the consolidation loan, stop using the cards and just close the accounts. Your credit score will suffer, but your finances will thrive. Your score will come back up over time, and by then you’ll have learned valuable lessons about racking up too much debt.

When you pay off a loan early, you’ll save on interest. That’s good news for you, but bad news for the lender, as they lose out on the interest you would have paid if you continued to pay your loan on schedule. Some lenders offset this cost with a prepayment penalty fee. This fee is usually a percentage of the remaining balance, or the interest charged for a certain number of months.
If you decide to consolidate your debts, you should get organized as soon as you can. Make a list of all the different credit cards and loans you wish to consolidate. Once you do that, find your most recent billing statements and write down the exact balance you owe for each debt. Once you do this, add up all those balances to determine the total amount of outstanding debt you have. That number - the total amount of outstanding debt you're currently carrying - is what you'll need for a debt consolidation loan.

A third way to achieve relief from those awful credit card debts is through debt settlement. It can be better than either a debt consolidation loan or a balance transfer because when done successfully it can actually reduce the amounts you owe. The way this works is simple – at least in theory. All that’s required is for you to contact each of your creditors and offer to make a lump sum payment to settle the debt but for less than its face value.

At the start of each call, to the optimistic listener, it sounds like the situation might not be too bad as arrears on household essentials such as rent, council tax and utility bills are disclosed. But from then on it just gets messier and messier. Some people haven’t opened letters for months or even years, and as a result small mistakes, such as a parking ticket or traffic violation, have taken on a life of their own in the court system.
Unfortunately, not all companies are completely focused on helping you, so you need to be careful to avoid credit-repair scams. Also, not all information can be disputed, and the information that can be, you can do yourself by following these steps. This includes being proactive with your own due diligence and carefully reading any and all contracts before signing.
No one can legally remove accurate and timely negative information from a credit report. You can ask for an investigation —at no charge to you — of information in your file that you dispute as inaccurate or incomplete. Some people hire a company to investigate for them, but anything a credit repair company can do legally, you can do for yourself at little or no cost. By law:
When you combine all your debts into just one loan, you’ll only have a single loan payment to contend with each month, instead of multiple bills due to several different creditors. A debt consolidation loan should, therefore, make it much less likely that you’ll have a late payment, or miss one altogether, as you’ll only have one payment to make each month.
The Credit Repair Organizations Act, or CROA, makes it illegal for credit repair companies to lie about their services and results, and sets some additional rules. If you think you might be the victim of a credit repair scam, or if you’ve had other issues with a credit repair company, you can submit a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

UPDATE: The Alternative Loan Machine is actually fixing the issue for me now. Apparently the problem was during the period when they were switching from beta testing to going live. Their communications were down while they were transferring everything over to their new system. They’ve since contacted me and are assisting in getting my refund back from the vendor I hired through them, so everything’s getting taken care now. They are at this time doing everything they advertise themselves doing.
Balance transfers and debt consolidation loans have one bad thing in common. Neither will do anything to reduce your debts. If you owed $20,000 and transferred it to a debt consolidation loan or to a new credit card with a lower interest rate you would still owe the $20,000. And while a debt consolidation loan might have a much more favorable interest rate it will cost you more over the long haul because it will have a much longer term. Home equity loans can be for as many as 30 years and a home equity line of credit is usually for either seven or 10 years. In comparison, if you were to choose to repay those credit card debts yourself, you might have them completely paid off in three years or less using the snowball method.
Debt consolidation can often help borrowers get out of debt faster than they otherwise would when dealing with multiple outstanding credit cards, loans, and other debts. Most borrowers obtain debt consolidation loans with much lower interest rates than those attached to their current outstanding debts. This helps lower the interest expenses they're incurring each month, and it can help accelerate the paydown of outstanding debts. Additionally, since a single debt bill is easier to manage each month than multiple bills with different payment terms, it's easier to track and pay back debts on time; this can help you pay off your debts faster as well!
We've done the research so you don't have to. In many cases, our technology works directly with financial institutions to match you to the offers from our partners that are right for you, which means you may be more likely to qualify for the products that are Matched for You. Our list is more personalized than other sites because we review partner requirements before showing you offers. We find your best matches using your credit profile and your spending habits. Also, we don't rank the credit card offers by how much we get paid, we rank based on what's best for YOU.
Section 11031 of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act modified student loan discharges through total & permanent disability(TPD) from being added to the borrowers gross income.  Under the new law, discharge student loans are no longer seen as taxable income if applying for disability discharge.  This is a hugely beneficial change for disabled borrowers who want to apply for discharge on their federal student loans.  Previously many borrowers elected not to apply for discharge and remained in an income-driven repayment plan.

In contrast, WJA pairs you with your personal credit expert and the program lasts a maximum of 6 months, although clients typically start to see results in the first 30-45 days. Right from the start, we go after all the relevant items on your credit report. Once we start receiving responses from the bureaus and the creditors – we customize our responses for subsequent rounds, and we engage our in-house attorney. Read more about our process right here.
Step 2: Tell the creditor or other information provider, in writing, that you dispute an item. Include copies (NOT originals) of documents that support your position. Many providers specify an address for disputes. If the provider reports the item to a consumer reporting company, it must include a notice of your dispute. And if the information is found to be inaccurate, the provider may not report it again.
You’re entitled to a free credit report if a company takes “adverse action” against you, like denying your application for credit, insurance, or employment. You have to ask for your report within 60 days of receiving notice of the action. The notice includes the name, address, and phone number of the consumer reporting company. You’re also entitled to one free report a year if you’re unemployed and plan to look for a job within 60 days; if you’re on welfare; or if your report is inaccurate because of fraud, including identity theft.
Excellent (800>) +1.6 +1.9 +3.2 +4.5Source: Credit Sesame surveyed 600 Americans on how their credit scores improved with the addition of new financial products. Participants were divided by credit ranking and further categorized by the number of financial products they possessed (credit cards, merchant credit cards, car loans, and mortgage loans). The study was conducted August 2015 and concluded August 2017.

One of the biggest pitfalls of debt consolidation is the risk of running up new debt before the consolidated debt is paid off. When you finish paying off credit cards with a consolidation loan, don’t be tempted to use the credit cards with their newly free credit limits. If you think you might, close the accounts. You may have heard that doing so could hurt your credit score, and it might. But you can recover from credit score damage much more easily and quickly than you can recover from crushing debt.
This is easier said than done, but reducing the amount that you owe is going to be a far more satisfying achievement than improving your credit score. The first thing you need to do is stop using your credit cards. Use your credit report to make a list of all of your accounts and then go online or check recent statements to determine how much you owe on each account and what interest rate they are charging you. Come up with a payment plan that puts most of your available budget for debt payments towards the highest interest cards first, while maintaining minimum payments on your other accounts.
You should think about a debt consolidation loan if the high interest rates on your credit cards are making it difficult to make a dent in paying down the balances. The interest rates on most debt consolidation loans are lower than typical credit cards, enabling you to focus on paying down your debt more effectively instead of racking up interest expenses. If you're having trouble keeping track of multiple outstanding debt payments each month, debt consolidation may be a good choice for you as well. That single monthly payment really helps make managing your overall debt much less time-consuming.
Fixed rates from 5.990% APR to 16.490% APR (with AutoPay). Variable rates from 5.74% APR to 14.60% APR (with AutoPay). SoFi rate ranges are current as of February 15, 2019 and are subject to change without notice. Not all rates and amounts available in all states. See Personal Loan eligibility details (https://www.sofi.com/eligibility-criteria#eligibility-personal). Not all applicants qualify for the lowest rate. If approved for a loan, to qualify for the lowest rate, you must have a responsible financial history and meet other conditions. Your actual rate will be within the range of rates listed above and will depend on a variety of factors, including evaluation of your credit worthiness, years of professional experience, income and other factors. See APR examples and terms (https://www.sofi.com/personal-loans/personal-loan-rates/). Interest rates on variable rate loans are capped at 14.95%. Lowest variable rate of 5.74% APR assumes current 1-month LIBOR rate of 2.51% plus 4.28% margin minus 0.25% AutoPay discount. For the SoFi variable rate loan, the 1-month LIBOR index will adjust monthly and the loan payment will be re-amortized and may change monthly. APRs for variable rate loans may increase after origination if the LIBOR index increases. The SoFi 0.25% AutoPay interest rate reduction requires you to agree to make monthly principal and interest payments by an automatic monthly deduction from a savings or checking account. The benefit will discontinue and be lost for periods in which you do not pay by automatic deduction from a savings or checking account.
When shopping for a debt consolidation loan, you should watch out for red flags including aggressive sales representatives, guaranteed approvals and quick-fix promises, as well as requirements such as upfront payments before loan approval or access to bank accounts for automatic withdrawals. “No lender should charge you upfront before you get the loan … and you certainly shouldn’t send money with a wire transfer or prepaid card,” Detweiler cautions.
